STORY :

Ten years have passed since the end of Bakumatsu, an era of war that saw the uprising of citizens against the Tokugawa shogunate. The revolutionaries wanted to create a time of peace, and a thriving country free from oppression. The new age of Meiji has come, but peace has not yet been achieved. Swords are banned but people are still murdered in the streets. Orphans of war veterans are left with nowhere to go, while the government seems content to just line their pockets with money.
One wandering samurai, Kenshin Himura, still works to make sure the values he fought for are worth the lives spent to bring about the new era. Once known as Hitokiri Battousai, he was feared as the most ruthless killer of all the revolutionaries. Now haunted by guilt, Kenshin has sworn never to kill again in atonement for the lives he took, and he may never know peace until killing is a thing of the past.
Now in the 11th year of Meiji, Kenshin stumbles upon Kaoru Kamiya, owner and head instructor of a small dojo being threatened to close its doors. The police force is powerless to stop the string of murders done in the name of her dojo by a man claiming to be the famous Battousai. Kenshin's wanderings pause for now as he joins Kaoru to clear both their names. But how long can he stay before his past catches up to him?

该故事发生在明治维新初年的东京。主人公绯村剑心在幕末是维新派的刽子手，人称“拔刀斋”，杀人无数。在新时代，他使用一柄逆刃刀四处流浪，立志不再杀人。在东京的神谷道场，剑心遇到了阿薰及一帮朋友们。他是否找到了呢——剑的方向，心的归属。
逆刃之剑，也许是想就这样悄悄的藏住自己的锋芒的，可是剑终归是剑，能够出鞘的剑就更没有理由来说自己已经把自己隐藏得很好。
也许是想避开那些权利的争斗，也许是想避开无谓的纷扰，可是拔刀斋始终是属于那个一开始就被叫做拔刀斋的人，就算有人能够继承，就算别人能够抢去这样的名号，但是人们提起这个名字，脑海里还是一个火红的背影。

10 tahun sudah berlalu semenjak ketamatan Bakumatsu, era perang di mana rakyat jelata menentang kesyogunan Tokugawa. Para revolusioner ingin mencipta sebuah zaman keamanan, sebuah negara yang bebas daripada penindasan. Zaman Meiji baharu melanda, namun keamanan masih tidak dicipai. Pedang dilarang tapi masih ada orang dibunuh di jalan. Anak yatim bekas askar tertinggal tanpa tempat perlindungan, tapi kerajaan hanya sibuk mencari kekayaan secara haram.
Seorang samurai kembara, Kenshin Himura, masih berusaha memasti nilai dia berjuang berbaloi dibawa ke era baharu ini. Dulu dia dikenali sebagai Hitokiri Battousai, ialah seorang pembunuh kejam yang ditakuti oleh para revolusioner. Kini Kenshin dihantui oleh kekesalan, dia bersumpah tidak akan membunuh lagi demi penebusan atas nyawa-nyawa dia meragut.
Kini ialah tahun ke-11 bagi Meiji, Kenshin terjumpa Kaoru Kamiya, pemilik dan ketua pengajar bagi sebuah dojo kecil diancam untuk ditutup. Angkatan polis tidak berdaya untuk menghalang kes-kes pembunuhan yang dibuat atas nama dojonya oleh seorang yang menuntut dirinya ialah Battousai yang terkenal. Maka Kenshin pun menyertai Kaoru untuk membersihkan nama kedua-dua mereka. Tapi berapa lama dia boleh tinggal sebelum masa silamnya terdedah?
