The year is 1333. The Kamakura shogunate has built the cornerstones of the Japanese government with the samurai class, but it all comes crumbling down as long-trusted vassal Takauji Ashikaga betrays the shogunate and sets up a rebellion. Tokiyuki Hojo, the rightful heir to the shogunate, has lost everything and been knocked down into the depths of despair and hopelessness. A Shinto priest named Yorisige Suwa takes his hand, and together, they escape Kamakura, which is now in flames. Tokiyuki, now having escaped Kamakura, has arrived at Suwa’s territory, where he meets friends he can trust to build up power to take back Kamakura for his own. Our hero overcomes this wave of a changing period by running away and staying alive, doing quite the opposite of what a samurai would – which is fighting and dying. In this time of chaos filled with heroes, Tokiyuki’s game of tag to reclaim the throne is about to come underway.
